On Monday August 20, 2018, 18 BC FFA members got the chance to take a trip up to our state capital to participate in the Water Grab Rally. This rally was to prevent the State Water Resources Control Board from taking the water from the central valley farmers and redirecting it for fishery restoration. The rally was put on by California Assemblyman Adam Gray. It took place on the North Steps of our State Capital. During this event our students were able to walk around and talk with not only fellow FFA members, but also concerned citizens and farmers, as well as some of our state’s representatives. Once the event began our students were able to stand among fellow FFA members from all across California and listen to the speakers who were concerned about our valley farmers losing their much needed water to fishery restoration. Our students were able to express their concern for our valley’s farmers and felt that this rally was one step closer to taking that water back. Following this event, the BC FFA took a tour of our state’s capital and observe not only the Assembly, but also the Senate in action. While observing our students were able to see first-hand what goes into bills becoming laws in the State of California. Overall this was an amazing opportunity for our students and we want to thank all those who were instrumental in making this trip possible.
