The California State Fair livestock competitions bring forth the most talented showmen and their animals. During the 2017 fair, two members from the Buhach Colony FFA Chapter were in attendance and ready to compete. Kilee Carrera-Gillard and Michaela Clark both performed extremely well and offered incredible competition for the other participants.
Ms. Gillard, a swine exhibitor, brought two hogs, a cross gilt and a hamp barrow. With both breeds she was awarded Reserve Champion and was invited to the auction, where she was able to sell both animals. In addition to her extraordinary performance in the market classes, she also placed 4th overall in showmanship.
Our next member, Ms. Clark, is a recently graduated beef showman. Her performance at state fair rounded out her excellent high school animal exhibiting career. Michaela participated in the junior show where she won Champion Angus Bull. She also took part in the open show, where she was further awarded with Champion Angus and Supreme Champion Bull.
This is an incredible accomplishment, and both of these members have definitely left a mark at the 2017 California State Fair.
