On October 5, 2017, the annual Farm 2 U Day was held at the Merced County Fairgrounds. Farm 2 U Day is an amazing event- the third graders of various schools in the district are invited to the Merced Fairgrounds where they spend several hours listening to presenters, looking at props and equipment, and visiting stations all pertaining to agriculture. At the end of their tour, each and every student is given a cabbage plant, generously donated by Bonnie’s Plants; they then get the opportunity to take it home, watch it grow and apply for a scholarship at the end of the year! Everyone- the students, the teachers, the presenters, and the FFA members in attendance- had a great time.
The Buhach Colony FFA Chapter brought 25 students to assist during the event, along with other members of various chapters within the district. Buhach was once again asked to conduct a presentation to teach third graders about the different kinds of rabbits. In addition to the five members who worked the station, we also had members calling rotation times, keeping order at the different stations, and be line leaders to navigate the third graders through the fairgrounds, from station to station.
