Beginning on September 25th was the very first Penny War held by Buhach Colony FFA dedicated to supporting Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Students were encouraged to bring in pennies, as well as other coins and bills and put them in jars located in all the ag classrooms as part of a class competition. The teacher whose class brought in the least amount of money would dress in a cow costume all day in their classroom, and out in front of the whole school at the food fair on October 6th. This was an extremely successful event, bringing in $60 of pennies, $16 in nickels, $20 in dimes, $60 in quarters, $3 in one-dollar coins, and $107 in cash, for a grand total of $266. All $266 was donated to the American Cancer Society to help the fight against cancer. When ended on September 29th, Mr. Mancebo rounded out the competition in last place with a class total of $55.01 and wore around a cow costume complete with a cow hat and cow print socks. Students and teachers alike had a great time competing with one another and, ultimately, worked together to accomplish something amazing.
